Mic test
Check your microphone before a call. You'll see the input level live, and you can record yourself and listen back.
Your browser will ask to use the microphone. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere unless you press Record, and even then it stays on this device.
No app to install. Your first call is free.
Reading the meter
Barely moves
Wrong input, muted, or too far away. People on a call will ask you to repeat yourself.
Green while you talk
That's the range you want for calls.
Hits red
The signal is clipping and will sound distorted. Sit back a little or turn the input volume down in your system sound settings.
Mic fine but calls still break up? That's usually the connection, not the microphone. Run a packet loss test.
Fixing a microphone that won't work
- Check the physical mute: many headsets have a switch on the cable or a flip-up boom that mutes when raised.
- Pick the right input in the Microphone list above. Laptops often default to the built-in mic even with a headset plugged in.
- Close Zoom, Teams, Discord or anything else that might be holding the mic.
- Windows: Settings → System → Sound → Input, and make sure the device isn't disabled. Mac: System Settings → Sound → Input.
- Still nothing? Try another USB port or another browser to rule out a driver problem.

Mic test questions
How do I know my microphone is working?
Press Start, allow the microphone, and talk at your normal volume. If the bar moves into green and the page says it can hear you, the mic works. Record five seconds and play it back to hear exactly what other people will hear.
Why does the bar stay empty?
Usually the browser is using a different input than you think, the mic is muted on the headset or keyboard, or another app has taken it. Pick the right device from the Microphone list, check the mute switch, and close apps like Zoom or Teams before testing again.
The browser didn't ask for permission. What now?
It probably remembered an earlier Block. Click the lock or microphone icon in the address bar and set Microphone to Allow. On a Mac, also allow your browser under System Settings, Privacy & Security, Microphone.
Is my recording saved or uploaded?
No. The level meter and the five-second recording run entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to CallSpark or anyone else, and the recording disappears when you leave the page.
Why does my voice sound different in calls?
This test shows the raw microphone, with no noise suppression or echo cancellation. Calling apps switch those on, which can make your voice sound flatter or cut out quiet sounds. That's normal.
Can I make a phone call from this browser?
Yes. If the mic test passes, CallSpark can call any mobile or landline from this tab, with no app. Your first call is free.
